Cache County is seeking a Professional Licensed Surveyor to join the Engineering Division within the Public Works Department. This is a full-time, exempt position responsible for the supervisory and administrative duties of a Professional Land Surveyor, including topographic surveying, mapping, and construction staking, in accordance with Utah Statutes.

The County Surveyor manages all surveying work required by state statute and county ordinances. This includes identifying and managing work necessary to meet statutory requirements and other county obligations.
Key duties include:
Survey Management: Oversee all survey support services for Capital Improvement Projects and other departmental land/boundary surveys. Identify and manage work required by state statutes and county ordinances.
Records & Mapping: Oversee the production and online management of maps and other survey records.
Monument Preservation: Oversee the Survey Monument Preservation Program, managing inventory, preservation, restoration, and the administration of funds. Perform GPS planning, editing, and processing of raw data to fix monumentation positions.
Document Review: Manage Plat Review and Record of Survey Filing efforts to ensure compliance with state/county requirements and recordability.
Legal Descriptions: Prepare and review legal descriptions for roadway, drainage, utility, and temporary construction easements, and for county-owned/leased property, ensuring accuracy.
Field Work: Responsible for field survey work on county projects, including topographic surveys, easements, and construction staking. Conduct preliminary surveys for design purposes and during construction of roads, bridges, and flood control structures. Reset property pins as needed. Perform surveys to define untaxed or occupied land parcels.
Administration & Budget: Prepare and recommend the division budget, administer the budget, and direct procedures to ensure compliance. Reduce raw conventional survey data for coordinate and elevation plat maps.
Supervision: Assist with recruiting, selecting, training, and placing staff. Supervise and evaluate assigned staff by establishing performance standards, conducting evaluations, and initiating disciplinary actions as warranted. Manage time records, payroll information, and all work records.
Public/Agency Relations: Respond to inquiries from County officials, employees, and outside agencies regarding roadways and rights-of-way. Receive and investigate public complaints and inquiries about survey and boundary issues.
Education and Experience:
A valid License as a Public Land Surveyor in the State of Utah; AND
Eight (8) years of surveying work experience, of which four (4) must have been as a licensed land surveyor in responsible charge of office and field procedures; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
